Shafayeth Syed, 27, of Egg Harbor Township was taken into custody in Wilmington by Delaware State Police on Tuesday, March 8 and charged with causing a false public alarm, terroristic threats, cyber harassment and contempt of court, Hamilton police said.
Police say the threats violated the conditions Syed agreed to when he was released from the Atlantic County Justice Facility last month after his first arrest.
Syed was fired from his job as an eighth-grade science teacher at William Davie Middle School in Hamilton Township on Feb. 22, four days after being charged with causing false public alarm.
Syed told 6 ABC Action News after his February arrest that he was trying to stop cyberbullying when he learned of two social media pages — one of which showed video of students using the bathroom at the school. Syed told 6abc.com he commented, “You gonna die” on a bathroom video but said it’s a rap lyric and was directed at the page and not a particular person.
“The lyric is ‘you gonna die’ as in this page is gonna die.. we’re going to put an end to it,” he told the television outlet.
Syed was being held in the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $3,000 cash bail, police said
The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed, they said.
